Project C1: Climate: design and control of air treatment systems

In this project, we aim to optimise the environmental conditions (Ta, RH, CO2 , air velocity) in vertical farms to increase crop yield and quality, while reducing energy use, which plays an important role with respect to the energetic, and economic performance of vertical farms.

This project aims to explore, design, elaborate and assess the options of energy and environmental performance optimisation of vertical farming by improving the conditions for food production, by integrating it into the energy system of buildings and by connecting it to the urban energy system. The overall goal is to reduce the energy use per unit product to a level below that of greenhouse horticulture.
